Pollinator Garden

42°05'22.43" N  75°58'10.61" W

Pollinator gardens are designed to maximize color and vertical space. They also have to consider phenology in their design (in other words, they try to have different plants that naturally flower at different times of the year).

Both of these important features helps to attract as many pollinators as possible to the garden. So depending on when you take this hike, you will be able to see different flowers and different sets of pollinators visiting the garden.

In 2021, through the efforts of environmental studies students and the guidance of Dr. George Meindl, this site played a role in certification of Binghamton University as part of Bee Campus USA through the Xerces Society, a non-profit focusing on pollinator conservation. The garden also serves as a Monarch butterfly waystation!
